Glazes & Underglazes

Fool's Gold is a wonderful metallic glaze. When applies regular to thin it fires a smooth satiny pewter color. When it is applied more thickly, it fires from a pewter-gold to a beautiful even satin gold finish. If you apply it too thickly or under fire it, it will be gold, but wrinkly, so be mindful. THIS GLAZE IS NOT FOR FOOD SURFACES. HOWEVER, IT MAY BE USED ON THE OUTSIDE OF FUNCTIONAL WARE. THIS GLAZE IS LEAD-FREE!

Mix our glazes at a 1:1 ratio with water by weight. Designed for dipping, pouring, or spraying. If spraying, thin glaze as needed. All our glazes are batch tested and sold in dry form. White tile is Standard 213, red tile is Highwater Clay's Earthen Red both fired to Orton Guide Cone 6 in a digital electric kiln. We recommend fast glaze firing to Cone 5 with a 12F offset and a 2 to 5 minute hold. If using a kiln sitter, use small orton Cone 6 cones. We do not use Barium, Lead, or Cadmium in the production of any of our glazes. Always, always, always test new glazes in your studio before putting them into large scale production!

Waxy Blue is an amazing glaze. It is a silky smooth satin matte by itself that breaks green on edges or where thin. When overlapped with several of our other glazes some of the most exciting blues can be achieved. Try it with the Shiny Black, Jade Moss, Lucky Purple, Stardust, and Fool's Gold in particular. You'll be surprised at how dynamic the results will be. If using Waxy Blue overlapped with another glaze, you may need to thin it a little or just dip it for a shorter amount of time to avoid overglazing and running on the outside of a pot.

If you're looking for something funky to spice up your glaze selection try our lichen glazes! This art glaze adds a really fun element to any pottery or sculpture. Not intended for surfaces in direct contact with food (can be used on the exterior of functional pottery). Do not add too much water or glaze will not perform properly. Once applied thickly enough, it will crackle on bisque, do not touch--fire as is and it will work wonderfully.

One of our new SPRING inspired glazes! Sweet Pea is a beautiful, translucent light green glaze that is very glossy. BEST when used on light, white, or buff clays. Color may be lost on darker bodies. Good from cones 4-7, but, best gloss is achieved at a cone 6.
Mix at a one to one ratio with water (i.e. 2 cups water to 1 lb of dry glaze). Sieve twice thru an 80 mesh sieve, and you're ready to glaze. May be dipped, poured, or brushed. Thin with water if spraying. YOU MUST EXPERIMENT with thickness when brushing as it is not the preferred method of application.
