Description: Community Raku Firing
$10 per piece
Join us for an exciting day of Raku firing! Raku
firing is an exciting hands-on process that involves removing pieces
from a hot kiln and smothering them in combustible materials. The
results are lustres, crackles, and smoky effects that cannot be
imitated.
Students interested in firing pieces in our raku kiln should bring 1-6 bisque-fired pieces ($10 firing fee per piece) made with raku clay. Studio raku glazes are provided, and can be applied in advance or the day of the firing. A demonstration will be given at 11am, and students pots will be loaded and fired following. Space is limited because of kiln size, but we should be able to fit 18-24 pieces. Raku firing takes place outside, so dress appropriately.
